Ghibli is a famous Japanese animation studio founded by Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata. Studio Ghibli (pronounced jiburi or jee blee) is famous for creating the highest quality Anime, both animation wise and plot wise.
Ghibli films are so popular in Japan that they regularly out-perform Disney films at the Japanese box office.
Tickets to the museum must be purchased ahead of time for a particular day and we hear that it is hard to get tickets in Japan. There are a certain number reserved for overseas guests, so we got ours before we left the U.S.
You can see images of one of Ghibli's favorite characters "Totoro" here. "My Neighbor Totoro" is a great movie to get a sense of the Ghibli style of films.
